Which material to choose for the top? Here is eco-cement.

When we look for bathroom furniture, there are always many questions floating in our minds. Are we going all in on look or functionality? How much do we want to spend? Is a single or double washbasin better? But most importantly, which material to choose for the top?
The list of questions could go on, but the fact is that there is no single answer or a fixed rule to apply. In the choice of materials, in particular, our recommendation is to learn about them, both their pros and cons. This is why we now want to talk to you about Eco-cement.

Let’s start with the definition: eco-cement is one of the most used cement finishes to cover bathroom tops and furnishing accessories. It is a highly customizable natural compound based on inert binders, resins, and water, that adheres perfectly to both horizontal and vertical surfaces. It has earned the ‘eco’ prefix because it has no cements, epoxy resins, or toxic substances for humans and the environment: it is undoubtedly an innovative, green, and eco-friendly material.
It has qualities that make it perfect for the bathroom. First of all because it is waterproof and breathable, which means that water cannot go through, while steam can, thus maintaining its volume over time. It is also freezeproof, i.e. it resists sudden changes in temperature, and fireproof, resistant to fire.

The characteristic we appreciate most is that it is resistant yet flexible, which makes it a perfect material for creating continuous surfaces, without joints: it follows that the piece of furniture is more hygienic, as it limits the accumulation of dirt ensuring the top remains clean, and antistatic, since it reduces the accumulation of dust.
With eco-cement, we will have a continuous and uniform surface, with neutral colours, ranging from the lighter to the more intense ones of concrete, which gives the composition a rough look, typical of the ‘industrial’ style.
We recommend it especially for the tops with integrated washbasin like in the Luxor collection, where the use of eco-cement gives fantastic visual and tactile sensations to the compositions; or in Urban, where each composition is available in all finishes and colours.

What about maintenance? This aspect is also one of the advantages of eco-cement.
Having a porous surface, it does not require special maintenance, and for an eco-friendly cleaning, it is better to use natural products. Our suggestion is to create a solution based on hot water and 20-30-40% vinegar as needed, and to rinse with a soft cloth, preferably a microfiber one.
However, if you prefer to use commercially available products, we recommend neutral, non-aggressive detergents.
The only flaw, if we can even call it that, of eco-cement is its intolerance to aggressive substances. So no to alcohol, acetone, solvents, and detergents with microgranules. Finally, we do not recommend the use of detergents with concentrated solvents or acids.
